Comparison of sediment rating curves and sediment yield in subbasins of the Itacaiúnas River Watershed, Eastern Amazon

ABSTRACT Understanding the hydrosedimentological dynamics of tropical rivers is a challenge in Amazon due to its remote and difficult-to-access areas. This study was based on data collected from 16 control sections 6 subbasins that make up Itacaiúnas River Watershed (IRW), with 4 annual campaigns (high water levels, rising falling low levels) between 2015 2019, aim constructing comparing sediment rating curves yield. The at mouth IRW revealed rainy season responsible for 93% liquid discharges (Q) an average 1460.88 m3/s 98% suspended (SSQ) 5864.15 tons/day. Suspended concentrations (SSCs) are moderate (50 150 mg/l). encompassing all showed R2 values (0.92 0.99) greater than only or dry season, indicating good fit power equation SSQ Q studied. Higher coefficients b show areas production deforestation, as well new sources preserved forest.
